Family Ties

It's no news to anyone that love for cars sometimes runs deep in families. Dan's automotive interest can be traced back to V8 Holdens his dad owned back in the day. My father owned 6 models of Fairlane before I bought mine. I guess kids still fight in school playgrounds over whether your Dad says Fords or Holdens are the best.

We made contact today with a guy who drives the same model of classic car as his dad, both of which are awesome examples of 70's Australiana, built at home. Hopefully we'll be able to catch up with them in the next few weeks, do an interview and get some great photos.

  1. To complete the picture, I think the first Ford Dad had was an XF sedan - 5 speed SPac model. He had the bench seat from a ute fitted up front so Mum could cram us four kids in at holiday time.

  2. From memory, my dad's Fairlanes were ZK (May have been an XE Fairmont Ghia. It was green and sold before I was born), ZL (steel blue?), NA (dark blue, no good), NF (white), AU (Black). Only 5 then. But he also had an HQ Statesman, which nearly counts.

Great cars all of them. Dad's a regular reader, I'm sure he'll correct any inaccuracies!

  3. My memorys start with a Toyota Corona named "Lurch", an XF S pack, EA (EB?) S pack, and then a bunch of euro stuff... like a 740 Turbo volvo, an Alfa GTV6 GP and a Saab 9000E turbo... I think my love of Euro stuff comes from my Mum's dad though - He had concours winning Rileys and had a Alfa 2600 Sprint when it was a new car... they (and he) were all gone by the time I was born.
There was also mum's string of 3 celicas, pre dated by a trana and a mini in there too.

  9. Not quite, he traded the Commodore on a White XF GL, then a White EA S then a White ED GL and finally a Laser (can't remember the Colour, it was probably White).

His Son (my Cousin) was a big Holden man at the time, telling me how much better the Commodore was than the Falcon. Funnily enough after my Cousin reminds me of you in his early taste in Cars. He started off with a White HQ with the Bumpers Brush Painted Black, which was quickly swapped for a Beige ZH Fairlane with a warmed over 351, then a Silver NA Fairlane, a Yellow Fire XA GT Hardtop, Regency EL Futura, a couple of XR6 Turbos, a Menace (think Mulberry) BA F6 Typhoon. I think his current ride is a Silver FG G6E.......

    Cheers,
